A creative thought, leader and Founder of Mattz Multimedia, Matthew Chukwudi, has called on the Government to do all in its power to create an enabling environment for creative entrepreneurs to thrive in the nation.
Chukwudi, an experienced content creator, made this known recently in a media briefing while sharing highlights of his brand’s contribution to the media and entertainment space in Nigeria.
The expert noted that his passion for creativity and contribution to social and economic development led him to start a Media and Entertainment brand known as Mattz Multimedia which has been running for over 17 years.
The multimedia expert opined that the Government has a great responsibility to create infrastructure and introduce policies that can help businesses grow.
“The Government has a major role to play in improving the media and entertainment industry in Nigeria. They should do more to foster the growth of the creative industry through adequate funding, training, infrastructure, and collaborations.
Speaking further, Chukwudi stated that National Bureau of Statistics data indicates that the media and entertainment industry contributed 3.4% to Nigeria’s GDP in 2021. As such, says the Federal Government needs to create more funding schemes that would provide financial support for both startups and professionals in the industry in order for them to do more to contribute to national development.
Giving insight on his journey into the creative economy, he revealed that it all began from when he was a youth.
“Growing up as a secondary school teenager, my late father had a battery-powered piano kept on top of the wardrobe in his bedroom. I would sneak into the room, climb a chair, and play with it without his knowledge. However, this did not last for long as he eventually caught me one fateful day.
To my amazement, my Father challenged me that if I did well in my academics, he would gift me the piano. I took up the challenge, shunned every distraction, and became very serious with my studies.
I was able to achieve my academic goal and my father kept to his Word, and got a music tutor for me which I will say laid the foundation for what I do in the world of music and entertainment today.”
Speaking on his contribution to the creative economy, the entrepreneur noted.
I have made so much impact through my works in Music and Film production, Music and Media Education, advertising production, Academy, Sales, and installation of Music and media Equipment among others.
Chukwudi mentioned that he would not have been able to add value in his industry but for his commitment to personal development which he stressed is key for anyone who wants to thrive in life.
He said he has been able to commit himself to attend business and leadership training and joined professional associations related to his business for networking and expansion purposes.
“I have had the privilege to take short courses on Film and Photography from credible academies. I have also taken many online classes on film production from film schools in the UK and USA, then I bought some film production facilities from B&H Stores in the USA to add value to my work.”
As a way of social responsibility, the creative entrepreneur says his brand has engaged in quite a number of initiatives.
“We have done a number of human capital development projects tailored at developing young talents especially those that have a passion for media and entertainment but have no launch pad into the job market. I have also organized a mentorship hangout for young people every year which I tag “Tea or Coffee.”
As a sought-after content creator, Chukwudi has had the privilege to work with an array of individuals, celebrities, and corporate organizations among others.
“He says, I recently, shot 3 Advert Videos for Innoson Vehicles, which will be shown in this year’s BBNaija project.
The first advert I directed for them was in 2021, in which I featured Jim Iyke. But this present one, I featured BBNaija celebrity called chuzzy,” he added.
